The Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Seapdr) has extended the maturity of the Corn and Sorghum Seed Exchange Program contracts from April 30 to May 31. With the measure, Secretary Covatti Filho responds to requests from the productive sector due to the prolonged drought, which has caused damage to agriculture and livestock, and the need to protect and prevent the decapitalization of producers and their representative entities, preventing the continuity of agricultural production.
In March, Seapdr had already extended the term of payment of installments of existing contracts of the Land Fund of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Funterra) and the State Fund for Supporting the Development of Small Rural Establishments (Feaper). "At a time when our farmers are calculating huge losses in their crops due to the drought, we have a duty to seek solutions that will alleviate the situation," said Covatti Filho.
The 2019 Seed Exchange Program benefited around 50 thousand farmers, from 499 entities (city halls, unions and associations), in 387 municipalities, for the sowing of more than 143 thousand hectares of planting, or 19.1% of the area grown in Rio Grande do Sul.
